Industrial Design by Benjamin Hubert
Exhibition at Direktorenhaus Berlin
As indicated by the title of the exhibition, Benjamin Hubert exercises a materials’ driven design approach. Much of the studios inspiration originates from a tactile response to raw material and the experience of a close working relationship between the product, process and craftsmen.
The exhibition at Berlin’s Direktorenhaus articulates this distinctive approach by revealing a series of images, components, prototypes and materials, creating a temporal wormhole from the London based studio to the heart of Berlin. The inaugural solo exhibition aims to expose the working process of the burgeoning design studio in addition to the finished articles. This will support a collection of new and earlier work from Hubert, which will be on display throughout the Direktorenhaus to highlight the narrative, values and design language that are fundamental to the young designer’s work.
Benjamin Hubert founded his industrial design studio, Benjamin Hubert in 2007 shortly after graduating from Loughborough University, UK, in 2006. He received a number of prestigious awards including the British Design Awards 2010 “Design of the year” and the EDIDA International Young Designer of the Year 2010.
The exhibition “Materiality” is part of the exhibition “Scriptoria” that runs from June 4 – August 30, 2011 at Direktorenhaus, the newest exhibition house for modern design in Berlin. “Scriptoria” shows a young generation of highly regarded industrial designers including among others, Benjamin Hubert and Daniel Becker. The design of their products and objects is guided by the materials and manufacturing processes.
